Who’s behind Citizen Marta?

Hey there! 

Thanks for coming by. Let me introduce myself. I’m the person behind Citizen Marta and, as you can guess, my name is Marta. Yes, without the h. I’m used to be called Martha and Maria; more recently Martina. So I won’t take it personal if you do so.

A little about me

I was born in Toro, a village in Spain we locals like calling ‘city’ (it was named as a city in in the Middle age and it’s something we locals are very proud of). I was one in 10.000 souls living there until I moved out for uni. I did my degree in Journalism, only to find out that there was no chance I could find a job that could pay my bills. Or my meals. Or my after-work drinks? I did a Postgrad in Teaching and I enrolled in a degree in Law just for fun. Of course, it wasn’t funny. Not at all. Nothing. Nada. 

Then I moved to England, where I improved my English, lost all my tan (Nah, I’ve always been this pale) and became a little bit more British and less Spanish. When I finished my MSc Marketing, I found the perfect job: getting paid for posting on Social Media and blogging. Not bad! In a post-Brexit Britain, Macclesfield, in Cheshire, is what I call home.

Why I am a citizen of the World?

Easy! Because I’ve lived in so many different places I couldn’t choose one. Let’s see… Spain (Madrid, Toro, Valladolid), Italy (Lecce, Napoli), Peru (Jaen) and England (Cambridge, Salford). Who knows what I’ll call home in the future! 

I love travelling. From short day breaks to weekly getaways. I am passionate about food. If it’s got cheese, I’m 99% sure I’ll like it. I want to believe I have a talent for photography and I can’t imagine life without music.
